Meredith Schamun was hired as head coach of the University of Pennsylvania volleyball program in March 2020. Schamun's first season as head coach (2021) started with three straight wins, Penn winning its own Sheraton University City Invitational, and ended with the Quakers' first true sweep of an Ivy League weekend since the 2012 season as they beat both Cornell and Columbia by 3-0 scores at The Palestra. Junior outside hitter Autumn Leak earned second-team All-Ivy honors as the Red and Blue exceeded preseason expectations. Schamun (pronounced shah-MOON) came to Penn from the Main Line, as she helped Villanova to a 39-23 record in two seasons as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Wildcats. A highly decorated setter at Rice University, Schamun also served two seasons as an assistant coach at Tulane and two seasons at UCF following a professional playing career.Her recruiting connections around the country, especially in her native Southern California, will serve the program well. Trevor Weiskircher was hired as an assistant coach with the women's volleyball program in July 2021. Weiskircher came to Penn from the University of Alabama, where he was a volunteer assistant coach with the Crimson Tide’s women’s volleyball programs in 2020. Prior to his stint at Alabama, Weiskircher was the graduate assistant and director of operations for Northern Illinois University’s women’s volleyball program during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Weiskircher earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Physics from Lewis in 2017 and a Master of Science in Sport Management from Northern Illinois University in 2020.After graduation, Weiskircher played professionally in Greece for GAS Pamvohaikos where his team finished fourth in the A1 Ethniki Volleyball League. Weiskircher played men’s volleyball collegiately at Lewis University from 2015-17 and was part of the Flyers’ run to the national championship match in 2015 against Loyola-Chicago. He was a member of the Academic All-MIVA team all three seasons and earned All-MIVA honorable mention in 2016.
Michaela Dungan joined the University of Pennsylvania volleyball program as a volunteer assistant coach ahead of the 2022 season. Dungan helps to assist the Quakers coaching staff while also performing her duties as a Clinical Research Coordinator at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). Dungan recently graduated from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), where she was a four-year letter winner for the Highlanders’ volleyball team. She also was a member of NJIT’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and served as its President for two years. Dungan was the America East Conference’s SAAC Vice-Chair as a junior and an NCAA Division I representative as a senior. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from NJIT with a degree in biology, making the Dean’s List every semester.
